Beta's Easter Mayhem
23/04/11
06:30
Waking up to a gorgeous sunny day
The big day has arrived
A Mammoth day of epic scale gigs
Manchester Rocks Festival in Prestwich
and Oxjam in Hoylake
Early start to the day to get everything set and ship shape with out the usual panic rush
Rehearsed some parts altered a few settings for the new track v1Ru5
Just quickly check the location on Google Maps
hmmm why is the power light flashing on my laptop ?
why is there no power light on my laptop psu ?
PAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCC
I'm supposed to be leaving in 30 minutes
So a quick visit to a local computer shop to buy a new power pack,
asking questions about noise earthing issues with pro audio equipment and explaining my hurry
get home, decide its best to check it with the full rig
Just plugging in the power pack in creates a shed loud of earthing noise without being attached to anything, leg it back to the shop
Little old couple are asking questions about buying a new pc trying to sound knowledgeable
"so where does the cd go in?"
Yes it is fair to say I was hopping from foot to foot and actually interjected quite rudely
and was handed a much more expensive power pack and told see me later
Ran home plugged it in hey presto clean clear signal, re pack everything and off we go
Venue was a bit of a nightmare to find hidden at the back of a shopping precinct
but by gods it was MASSSIIIIVEEEE replete with echo
Met the organizers who informed us the schedule was an hour behind and showed us to the service lift which we had much fun playing in moving our gear up to the hall
So the search was on for the illustrious Bacon Filled Sandwich which had been the form of payment for DeeJay Croosh for playing and plugging the band out on radio
And not just any Bacon Filled Sandwich, This was a Beta M&S Bacon Filled Sandwich
After a very off the wall and unprecidented interveiw with DeeJay Croosh and Mini Croosh
which gave us the classic come back, "lapdance: defintion - sitting with a laptop on your knee and moving your upper body to music at the same time.... "
Our turn comes round to perform our Beta Psychological Field Research Unit Field Trip
Sufficient shock and surprise from the ample crowd as Brewer is cajoled and literally thrown on stage.
LOTS of space for a whole bunch of stomping around on stage, I must have covered a mile or two in the space of the set, unfortunately quite a few problems on stage, GDi struggled to hear Vocals, I had feedback issues from my guitar level through the monitors, which led to dragging my floorboard to the other side of the P.A. speakers and twisting my midi cable(more of this later)
and then there was the drumkit of doom, never before has a drum kit skated around a drum riser more than here, mic stands fell off, cymbals hung off with one leg trapping it up in the air I ended up playing part of Metal Heart with a shoulder jammed into the kit to stop a cymbal from slicing through Brewer who was utterly unaware of the carnage going on behind him,
This gig was lots of fun shame there wasn't more people around anyhow onwards and upwards lets pop back down the road to see what chaos is happening at OxJam Hoylake

We've made our plan and we're ...
...going to stick to it !!

much re-jigging of the set tonight
very appreciatative crowd but they stayed firmly hidden in the seating round the dance floor
AND its a big ole dance floor at Mcleans !
Set felt a little flat onstage
but seemed to go down well with sizable crowd
but then the Beta Psychological Research Field Unit is alot of fun to be involved in
Anyone got a Geiger counter ?
nice to see The Issues Raised take on some good ole sensibilities
